Evalaution

My final is a cell animation which is created digitally, that lasts for 30 seconds. In this project the software I used was cs4 illustrator, photoshop and aftereffects, which all had an impact on my final animation. Overall I feel I have created a creativity response to the audio track I was given, it has a strong storyline to it, it fits into my 3 descriptive words because the hole animation is fun to watch, lighthearted through the dancing and annoying also fits in through the donkey getting annoyed at the lizard. I know I maybe haven't done many different storyboard ideas but this was definitely the main story I kept thinking about listening to the soundtrack. I feel I have met the brief with the duration of the animation, its a pretty simple designs with a well applied sequence.

What I will take from this project is the animation skills on aftereffects, which has made me realise how hard animation actually is, but I thoroughly enjoyed created the animation for this project and gives me a clearer understand of what I want to do later on.

Reason for the lizard

The reason I chose the lizard is because its the opposite to a donkey in nearly every way, and if a singing lizard came across a donkey I'm sure the donkey would be freaked out.

I feel the donkey and the lizard calibrate very well together due to the fact they are so different to each other.

The reason I chose a donkey is... well one of the main reasons is, just the picture I got into my head while listening to the soundtrack because the song seems quite fun and lighthearted, which a donkey dancing with maraca's definitely looks fun and being on two legs while dancing the donkey must be light on his feet!

Storyboard.

I know I've already uploaded this storyboard but being my final I'm going to talk to through what happens. Firstly you will see a donkey dancing with maraca's then 10 seconds in a lizard comes in singing and the donkey gets scared by this but then realises he's just joining in on the music so the donkey carries on dancing while the lizard keeps singing, then the singing stops and the lizard starts dancing and the donkey looks over realises he's dancing as well and the donkey wants only himself to be the only one to be dancing on the screen so he get angry and decides to karate kick him off so he can keep dancing to the end of the animation.

Influences

Jungle book, everyone know its a film involved around the animals in the jungle and the reason I am influence by this is because the way the characters act the opposite to the last influence (happy tree friends) which is entertaining and amusing, you see animals dancing and singing which is exacting whats going on in my animation.

Happy tree friends famous for its gory animations but I'm not influenced by what they do with the characters its by what they look like. The animals they have created are simplified and have made them with bright, bold colours which is the look I'm going for.

Background

Thinking about a background I could use was pretty easy because it jus had to be based outside so I created a basic green and blue scenery. It sets the scene and does the job needed but keeping you attracted to the characters.

Above is all the heads of the donkey I need to get me through the animation, I'm pretty surprised how good they have came out actually and by using these faces it will definitely add the comedy factor to the animation which I was looking for.

Here is my final donkey design developed on illustrator, in my opinion I really happy with the outcome to this design. The colours on a donkey are normally quite dull and being a cartoon its normally exaggerated so I used brighter colours and to be honest you can still easily tell its a donkey

I realised that the mouth was empty in the previous design and knew I definitely had to fill it with some sort of tongue so started to design different types of tongues starting from the top then at the bottom is my final design for the lizard.

After drawing the lizard out I then developed it further on illustrator, creating it in two positions also adding colour being a classic lizard green colour to keep it easily identifiable.

Above are a couple of rayograms I created in the rayogram sessions which they showed us the process of creating a piece like this and how you can create a tester to see which brightness or darkness you want on the rayogram, an example of this is the patchy rayogram above. The rayogram I took are of sunglasses, but unfortunately my rayogram skills are amateur so turned out pretty poor.

Now I got the donkey I'm happy to create as my final, I started to draw the donkey in the scenarios that he would be in throughout the animation, I also started to draw different styles maraca's so I can find the one I want.

Now I successfully drew the donkey's head to the way I wanted I added the body which was pretty simple so there was not much need to do a long process like the head of the donkey. I have drawn the donkey in different positions so it will be easier to develop onto the computer.

After trying to draw the hole face of the donkey I decided to break it down into separate aspects like I done previously to the lizard sketch's which again helped immensely.

I realised that donkey's are probably one of the hardest animals to draw not even thinking about creating it into a cartoon because donkey's are very similar looking to a horse and other four legged animals, so simplifying it was very hard, so firstly I started off with the hardest bit which was drawing the head of the donkey and as you can see I struggled a bit.

Finally I drew a lizard design I'm happy with and willing to use for my final, now I need to develop this onto the computer.

I then decided I need to break the lizard down in separate parts and draw aspects of them, which allows me to focus on each part more. This has definitely helped me improve the design I'm looking for.

Aides Smutley

Above is some screenshots of the video which was a brilliant advert because it put the point across in a funny way. I like reallly the look of the smutley character, and he is the sort of look I want in my designs but with colour.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

Here is a famous song by the red hot chili peppers, the video is an animation of all of the band in an grand theft auto style look, a good video but not the type of look I'm going for in my animation.

Junior Senior - Move Your Feet

Here is a music video that has always caught my eye because its really entertaining to watch and the big pixels gives a different, cool effect. I like the random animals that comes across in the video and might influence me to create my own in my future designs. Above is some screenshots of the music video.
